Take Time To Enjoy The Little Things

Happy Labor Day,

I hope everyone has had a nice break off to enjoy with their family. Labor Day is usually a hard time for me, since it was this weekend when my Gram got sick in 2018, then later passed in October. I try not to be sad when I reflect upon this time, but sometimes it’s okay to feel a little sad and miss someone you love. In addition to that, with quarantine the idea of a large family BBQ and fresh smoked pulled pork just didn’t seem attainable. Instead of focusing on the sadness, I told Beau a few weeks ago that we were going to spend this weekend celebrating fall. Yes I know, it was 115 degrees yesterday, and its not even November, however, fall to us represents family, gratitude, and happier times. So why the hell not? We will spend the weekend decorating with new fall decor and transitioning the house to a comfy cozy feel, while enjoying a beautiful “Thanksgiving” meal.

So Sunday we made mimosas, a beautiful roasted chicken, all the fix’ins, and had Crumbl cookies for dessert. It was a nice way for us to connect, enjoy, and relax from the daily stressors. Plus, we got to decorate with sweet fall decor and lots of pumpkins! We also were able to have a moment to thank the universe for what we have, for our family and friends, and for each other.

One thing I noticed this week, leading up to the weekend, was my excitement for the little things. In a time where it is so easy to be sucked into the darkness, the fear, and the pain of the world we live in, if the littlest thing is able to spark joy - embrace that spark. It might seem silly to be sipping pumpkin coffee while hanging up garlands, but its a moment to just feel that spark of happiness. What’s giving you the sparks? What little things ignite your happiness?

Little wins to celebrate this week:

  • Dyed my hair silver

  • Worked out everyday for 2 weeks

  • Took time to read, connect, and meditate

  • Soaked in the little things that spark joy

Take the time, enjoy it.
